Missing Woman Found Dead In Westmoreland Co.

LIGONIER TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - A woman who went missing in Westmoreland County on Thursday afternoon has been found dead.

According to authorities, 52-year-old Katherine Sessi was reported missing by her husband around 3 p.m. from Ligonier Township. He had just returned home from work.

"It was unusual that she was not home and the reason what caused the alarm was that her car was home, her purse was here and there was a cell phone here still at the house, which those items are usually with her. That kind of concerned them at the start," said Chief Mike Matrunics, of the Ligonier Township Police Department.

Authorities focused their search around the couple's home along Route 711 near Muir Road. K9 units were brought in to help in the search.

"At 8:32 a.m. this morning, after our long night of search details, they did find the body of Katherine Sessi," said Chief Matrunics.

It was located in a wooded-area roughly a quarter mile away from her home.

An autopsy is being scheduled, but officials say they are not treating Sessi's death as a criminal investigation for now.

Sessi leaves behind a husband and daughter.
