Pirates' Nutting: Hiring Hurdle, Building A Winner, More

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Pittsburgh Pirates owner Bob Nutting recently spoke with 93-7FM The Fan hosts, Seibel & Starkey, about the hiring of Clint Hurdle as the team's new manager.

According to Nutting, Hurdle wants to be with an organization that is committed to success.

The Pirates owner said he, along with general manager Neal Huntington and team president Frank Coonelly explained to Hurdle the steps they have taken in order to try and put the organization back on a winning track.

Nutting said that all the moves the Pirates are making are to put in place a solid foundation. He says he believes that that is the most successful way to build a winner, instead of just patching holes with free agents.

The next step, Nutting says, is to add more talent around the current major league roster and the Pirates are looking to the farm system for help.

Also, Nutting talked to Starkey about the frustration the team has experienced in recent years with draft picks that have not worked out at the major league level.
