Crews Repair Water Main Break In Beechview

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A large water main break has caused some major damage today in Pittsburgh's Beechview neighborhood.

The break happened around 9 a.m. in the 1300-block of Belasco Avenue.

According to local officials, the water company was called in to turn off service.

Crews began making repairs around noon after the six-inch line ruptured right in front of a home. It sent water gushing into the air and down the street.

"I was going to Meals on Wheels and I saw all this water gushing down the street," said homeowner Lois MacDonald. "So, I went back in to make a phone call, and in the meantime, it gushed up over the house. It was like a heavy rainstorm all over the back of the house. It was all wet; it was terrible."

The break caused the road to buckle. It also sent one to two inches of water into two rooms located in the front basement area of MacDonald's home and damaged the driveway.

Crews also responded to a second water main break along Route 51 this afternoon.
