Snow, Cold Temperatures Expected To Persist

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Winter weather alerts remain in effect all across the area today as snow continues to fall and frigid temperatures persist.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for several local counties.

KDKA's Jon Burnett says he expects additional accumulation through Tuesday.

"The lake effect snow machine continues to crank," said Burnett. "I don't think it's going away, not any time soon. In fact, I expect another one to three inches of accumulation today and tonight, and maybe an additional inch possible [Tuesday] before it all wraps up; and the cold [is] not even going away before this weekend. We don't get back above freezing till Friday, if then."

Burnett says he expects today's high to reach 21 degrees. He says temperatures will remain in the 20s all week, possible reaching above that Friday with a high of 32.

"The biting winds will continue – that will keep wind chills in single digits for most of the upcoming week," he said. "The good news is that by the time we get on toward Friday, we'll start to see things calm down and warm up slightly."

By Wednesday, Burnett says we'll see the snow showers just tapering to flurries.

"No additional accumulation... after midnight [Tuesday]," he added. "But we will see another inch to three between now and then, maybe more than that north of I-80 and over in the Laurel Highlands."
