Pedestrian Critically Injured In Hit & Run Accident

ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - Authorities continue to search for the driver in a hit-and-run accident in Ross Township Tuesday evening that left a woman critically injured.

According to police, the victim was at the curb around 7 p.m. on Hillendale Road near Rochester Road when she was struck.

Police say the accident happened on a section of the roadway with a steep incline.

The woman has been identified as Mary Ann Hussar. Officials say she is in her 60s.

Authorities report that Hussar told her husband she heard the car before seeing it.

"I heard the fear in her voice, and so I opened the garage door," said Mark Schrankel, a neighbor who helped Hussar after the accident. "I was in my driveway and said, 'Is there something wrong?' And she said, 'I've been hit.'"

Hussar suffered serious injuries and was taken to Allegheny General Hospital. She remains in intensive care with a gash to the head and broken bones. She is listed in critical but stable condition.

Police believe the car involved is a smaller vehicle with a loud exhaust and damage to the front end on the driver's side.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Ross Police Department at (412)-931-9070.
