Web Cam Shows Rink Progress At Heinz Field

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) - Crews got down to work Thursday night just after the Steelers defeated the Carolina Panthers at Heinz Field.

Now, the football stadium is being transformed into a hockey arena.

The NHL took over at Heinz Field just after the Steelers last home game of the regular season ended. The goal posts and team benches had vanished within 90 minutes of the game ending to make room for ice.

The rink will be ready for New Year's Eve when Mario Lemieux and other Penguins' alumni will play against alumni of the Washington Capitals. The current Penguins will also hold a practice on the outdoor rink that day.

Then, the main event is set for New Year's Day when the Penguins and Capitals face off in the NHL's annual Winter Classic game.
