Community Saves Family's Christmas After Fire

SHARPSBURG (KDKA) - A Sharpsburg family was devastated by a fire that destroyed their home overnight. However, in a matter of hours, their neighbors and community came together to make sure their Christmas wasn't ruined.

Marcus Urso, 8, admired the only two Christmas gifts that didn't burn in the fire.

The community brought over donations when they heard the Urso family lost everything in the fire.

"People were walking down the street with presents and came in and they wrapped them and put them under the tree for the kids," Tina Urso said.

Tina Urso is thankful for the generosity of the community. Her three kids, husband, and their dog were able to make it out of their home alive. Rebuilding will be tough, but the family now believes in miracles.

"The overall, the community coming together is a real work of God, that's what that is," Marcus Urso said.

After the fire, the family spent the night at their pastor's house. Pastor Russ Horne said the Urso's are such a giving family and the community has already started to return the kindness.

"It's great to see people with big hearts and a heart of generosity, especially at this time," Pastor Horne said.

The Sharpsburg Family Worship Center will be taking donations for the family. They need everything from furniture to clothing. Click here for more information.

Pastor Horne is hoping the outpouring from the community Friday night to provide Christmas for the family is only the start.

"They lost everything and we just want to help them the best we can to get back what they lost and provide Christmas for the kids especially," Pastor Horne said.
