Officials To Investigate After 2 Vets Reported Missing

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- After two area veterans were reported missing in the span of a few hours, officials with the Pittsburgh Veterans Administration Health Care System say they're going to investigate.

Both 83-year-old Fred Goings and 73-year-old Edward Devlin were reported missing Wednesday.

Goings was found in East Liberty by Pittsburgh police Wednesday night. Earlier in the day, he had been taken from the Aspinwall VA Health Care facility to Oakland for a CT scan.

Surveillance video from a parking lot camera showed him leaving the Oakland hospital. How he got to East Liberty is still unclear.

In the second case, police are still looking for Devlin after he failed to return to Golden Living Nursing Home in Mt. Lebanon.

Wednesday morning he was taken by a shuttle from the home to the VA health care center in Aspinwall for a doctor's appointment.

VA police searched the grounds of the hospital with no success. A VA spokesman told KDKA-TV that both cases are unrelated; however, there will be an internal investigation.

The spokesman pointed out that Devlin was not under direct VA care and was taken there by private transportation.
