Insurers Profiting From Taxpayer Dollars Via Medicare 'Float'
Pittsburgh (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) Private insurance plans associated with Medicare recipients, are banking millions by investing government funds that are sent in advance, but are not yet needed. This is known as "playing the float." Investment income totaled $376 million from advanced government payments in 2007 alone.
