4-1-Zoo: Pitt Beats DePaul 80-50

PITTSBURGH — No. 5 Pitt remained undefeated in conference play Saturday, beating DePaul 80-50.

Gilbert Brown led the Panthers (19-1, 7-0 Big East) in scoring with 17 points, followed by Ashton Gibbs with 13. Gary McGhee set a career high in rebounds with 16 and Brad Wanamaker contributed nine points, eight assists and four rebounds.

Pitt was in control for the majority of the game, trailing just twice early in the first half. Tied at 14 with 10:15 left in the first half, the Panthers went on a 24-9 run to end the half with a 38-23 lead.

Pitt continued to pour it on in the second half. DePaul (6-13, 0-7) crept back to within seven points, 42-35, with 12:48 remaining, but the Panthers went on another run to put the game out of reach.

Lamar Patterson scored five quick points and Gibbs hit on back-to-back 3-pointers to push the Pitt lead to 61-40 with 6:52 remaining.

The Panthers cruised the rest of the way.

Pitt has sole possession of first place in the Big East with Villanova (17-2, 5-1) and Louisville (15-3, 4-1) in second with just one conference loss.
