Outdoors Show Comes To Monroeville Convention Center

MONROEVILLE (KDKA) -- Vendors were preparing their wares for the Allegheny Sport and Travel Show at the Monroeville Convention Center.

"It's a Pittsburgh tradition where people just love to come out and see the new fishing stuff, the new hunting stuff," Chris Fassnacht, show manager, said.

Between the basic hunting and fishing supplies, organizers promise some new twists, including a full-fledged shooting gallery, a catch-and-release trout pond and bikes.

There will be a chance to win a Harley signed by every one of the Steelers.

While the industry isn't recession proof, there's renewed hope for a successful year.

"People that are laid off, they got to find something to do," Bob Polchosky, a vendor, said. "So, I mean, I got a dollar for a dozen worms or two bucks for a package of hooks, I go sit on the bank and fish."

The past few years have been tough for some of these companies, but the hope is that this might be the year people may shell out the extra money for that hunting trip or even a chance to channel their inner skipper.

"We're seeing exhibitors who do other shows on their tour come here and tell us how those shows have been, and Pittsburgh's getting stronger," Fassnacht said. "We can feel it."

The show runs through Sunday.
