2 Dead, 2 Injured In Washington Co. Crash

NORTH STRABANE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – Two people were killed and two others were injured in an early Sunday morning crash in Washington County.

According to the Washington County Coroner's Office, the accident happened just north of the Racetrack Road exit near mile marker 43 shortly after 5 a.m.

The victims were traveling north when their vehicle was hit by another vehicle. As a result of the collision, the victims' vehicle went off the road and began to roll.

Two of the occupants were ejected and they were pronounced dead at the scene.

They have been identified as Nickolas Mercolini, 65, and Alex Mercolini, 78. Both are from Pittsburgh.

Also in the vehicle were Catherine Mercolini, 57, and Linda Mercolini, 64. They were flown to UPMC Mercy Hospital and Allegheny General Hospital and their conditions are unknown.

Their 2006 Pontiac Vibe was struck by a 2004 GMC Yukon being driven by Stormy Hunter, 18, of Bridgeville. A 17-year-old girl was a passenger in the Yukon, but neither were injured in the accident.

The northbound lanes of I-79 were closed until 9 a.m.
