Washington Co. Care Home Worker Surrenders To Police

CHARTIERS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A man accused of assaulting a 94-year-old patient at the Washington County Health Center surrendered to authorities.

Michael Ashmore, 33, worked at the care home. The incident allegedly happened back in February.

"He's accused of using a clothing protector and rolling it up as like you would snap a towel and he snapped it into the gentleman's face and left a welt on his cheek which was witnessed by another employee there," Chartiers Township Police Sergeant Mike Filosi said.

Police issued a warrant for Ashmore's arrest. He was arraigned before District Judge David Mark at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday and was released on signature bond.

He has a preliminary hearing set for March 30. Ashmore is facing charges of simple assault, terroristic threats and neglecting care for a dependent person.
