Port Authority Riders Upset Over Crowded Buses

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The latest round of Port Authority cuts has reduced the number of routes and bus stops. They have left some people are angry that their bus is too crowded, while others are angry that they have no service at all.

The very first East Busway bus, which is now called the P1, at 5 a.m. was a couple of minutes late Monday morning. There was a small crowd waiting, but they were all able to get seats. As the sun rose, getting a seat and leaving on-time became more difficult.

Riders were forced to stand and pack the buses full. Some riders had to get off the bus because there was no more room.

"He said the bus was too crowded. He could not have anyone else get on the bus. That's utterly ridiculous," Crystal Mosely said.

Mosely wondered if reduced service and breakdowns in negotiations had a ripple effect on her.

"I'm on-time and now I'm going to be 15 to 20 minutes late waiting for another bus," Mosely said.

"I don't understand why they denied them or didn't accept what they were willing to give them and then do less cuts, as opposed to just denying them and doing all the cuts. That makes no sense to me. I think it's totally unfair," Brenda Horsely said.

There was no problem with crowd control in Glassport because there is no more bus service to the area.

Residents are hoping that alternatives will work such as WorkLink. While they are only a van service, they are hoping to fill the gaps in coverage.
