Pirates Sign Myers

Pittsburgh (KDKA)- The Pirates have added insurance in case Garrett Olsen bombs or Joe Beimel never makes it back.

The Bucs have signed left-handed pitcher Dan Meyer and assigned him to AAA Indianapolis.

Meyer was with the Philadelphia Phillies until this past weekend. In 2010 and 2009, Meyers pitched for the Florida Marlins, where he made 71 appearances in 09.

Meyer, 29, was a first round selection of Atlanta in 2002.

The Pirates needed left-handed pitching depth and Meyer provides that. Olsen looks shaky to me and the return of Beimel is unknown.
