National City Overdraft Settlement
Bank overdraft fees can be a real pain, but you may be able to put some of that money back in your pockets. Former National City customers are being contacted about a $12 million class action settlement. The lawsuit claimed National City did not record charges and purchases on ATM or debit cards in the order they actually occurred. That made the largest charge or purchase the first to be paid, and exposed more customers to overdraft fees. National City merged with PNC in 2009.
Any National City customer who was charged an overdraft fee between July 2004 and August 15 of 2010 is eligible under the class action settlement. Officials say $36 would be paid for each fee during that period. If the number of people filing claims is small enough, it could be up three times that amount.
