Officer Back On Job After Incident At PNC Park

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- One of the police officers involved in the arrest of an alleged unruly fan at PNC Park over the weekend is talking about the incident in an exclusive interview with KDKA Investigator Marty Griffin.

The officer is working tonight's game at PNC Park. It's the first time he's been back since the incident on Saturday night.

Pittsburgh Police Detective Frank Rende is the officer in the YouTube video seen striking 41-year-old Scott Ashley in the shoulder area and then in the back of the legs.

Marty Griffin: "The people who think you improperly handled yourself. Do you have any comment?"

Rende: "No. I was just doing my job. I'm going to do my job now – protecting the people of Pittsburgh."

Griffin: "Are you satisfied with how you handled yourself, sir?"

Sources close to the investigation tell Marty Griffin the officers involved in the incident followed proper procedure and protocol. They will not be disciplined.

The Pirates have no problem with how the officers handled the incident.

The Citizen's Police Review Board is also conducting an investigation.
