Police Investigate Fight Involving Teens In Scottdale

SCOTTDALE (KDKA) -- Police in Westmoreland County are investigating whether charges should be filed after video of a fight between two teenage girls was posted on YouTube.

The fight happened around 8 p.m. Monday in Garfield Park in Scottdale.

The video shows a 16-year-old girl throwing the first punch at a 13-year-old girl. The girls then begin to pull one another's hair before falling the ground where they throw punches. The whole encounter lasts about two minutes.

The girls, both of Everson, are students in the Southmoreland School District. The 16-year old is a sophomore at the high school. The 13-year old is a sixth grader at the middle school.

The 13-year-old tells KDKA the two girls were arguing about a boy when the 16-year-old began telling her that she looked pregnant and eventually punched her.

A large crowd gathered to watch the fight and cheer the girls on. Police tell KDKA they are concerned that one of those voices may be that of the 13-year old girl's mother, Chassidy Murphy.

Murphy says she wasn't encouraging the fight, but rather telling her daughter to "give it back."

The 16-year old's mother, Bonnie Urbanek, doesn't deny that her daughter threw the first punch, but says it was "just stupid" for the other mother to get involved.

Scottdale police and the district attorney's office are now reviewing the tape to determine what, if any, charges should be filed.
