Police Make Arrest In Elderly Man's Murder

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Authorities have arrested a man from Brentwood in connection with the death of an elderly man in Squirrel Hill earlier this month.

According to Pittsburgh police, 35-year-old Jason Kuhns was taken into custody Friday afternoon during a traffic stop in Brentwood.

Earlier this month, Cuddy Briskin, 90, was found unresponsive inside his Squirrel Hill home on Fernwald Road.

Authorities said Briskin had been beaten over the head and was discovered with a plastic bag over his face. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police say Kuhns was taken into custody just before 4 p.m. Friday on Sawmill Run Boulevard. He was taken to Pittsburgh Police headquarters and charged with receiving stolen property in connection with the case.

"We believe that on April 5, he entered the house with the intent of burglarizing the house for cash. He entered through the garage in possession of a pry bar to potentially pry over a door," said Lt. Kevin Kraus, of Pittsburgh police. "He found an unlocked door, entered the residence and he was startled and confronted by Mr. Briskin, at which point he struck him several times, placed him in a chair and placed two bags over his head."

Kuhns was questioned and taken to the Allegheny County Jail. Investigators say he will also be charged with criminal homicide and robbery and burglary.

Police say Kuhns is the estranged husband of Briskin's granddaughter.
