Ambridge School District Considers Selling Naming Rights To Facilities

AMBRIDGE (KDKA) -- The Ambridge Area School District is trying to get revenue to save its junior high sports programs in wake of proposed state budget cuts.

The board authorized Athletic Director Randy Cosgrove to pursue out the box fundraising ideas.

"We put together a very aggressive marketing campaign with a lot strategies, naming rights, some additional revenue producing sources that we think get a considerable amount of money raised," he said.

The plan to sell naming rights to facilities includes the stadium press box, field house and gym in addition to the baseball and softball fields.

"I even suggested certain wings of the high school, the science wing, the math wing," Cosgrove said. "Maybe we have an outstanding graduate that's in the science field that might want to give back and contribute and we could name a science wing after that person or a thespian who might want to donate to the auditorium."

Parents are for the idea and most also don't have a problem with charging admission to varsity soccer, volleyball and wrestling and even raising adult ticket prices for football games.

Cosgrove says they will need $60,000 to $70,000 to save these programs. He's hoping by selling naming rights, along with charging admission to some events, they can secure that money for the next school year.
