Local Church Worried About Neighboring Blasting Project

DUNBAR TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Members of a Fayette County church are worried that a blasting project on a neighboring property could put their building and cemetery in danger.

The congregation at Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church in Dunbar Township is concerned about Neiswonger Construction obtaining a permit that would clear the way for blasting at a mining site just over the hill.

At a public hearing on Thursday, about 100 people expressed concerns to the Department of Environmental Protection.

Signs protesting the blasting Flank both sides of the driveway leading up to the church. This is going on while the mining company prepares for a zoning hearing on Wednesday.

In the meantime, those close to the church are praying for a compromise. Church members are planning a candlelight vigil on Tuesday evening.
