Consumer Reports Rates Best Diets

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – If you are pushing yourself to get in shape for summer, or wondering which diet will give you the best results, Consumer Reports put several to the test.

Experts analyzed seven of the most popular diets including: The Zone, Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers.

"We rated each diet on nutritional quality, and we looked at published studies to find out how much weight people lost on these diets and how well they were able to stick to the diets," Nancy Metcalf from Consumer Reports said.

The Atkins Diet got the lowest score for nutrition and Slim-Fast had the worst long-term dropout rate.

The top honors went to Jenny Craig.

It beat out all the other diets, with excellent nutrition and a very low dropout rate.

"More than 90 percent of participants were able to stay on the diet for at least two years, and they lost an average of eight percent of their starting weight," Metcalf said.

The only downside to Jenny Craig is that is costs about $400 a year for the membership.

That includes weekly counseling sessions, but the packaged food that's part of the plan costs extra.
