Grandfather To Be Charged In Allegheny Twp. Accident

ALLEGHENY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A 12-year-old girl run over by her grandfather in Allegheny Township remains in critical condition but stable condition.

Now, police plan to charge 62-year-old Philip Zaffuto, of Apollo, in the accident.

He came to pick up his granddaughter, Kalie Petroff, when she got off the school bus. It's believed she was sitting on the hillside next to her driveway off Shearsburg Road.

Zaffuto apparently didn't see her when he turned down the driveway. His car hit her and dragged her before he realized what happened.

Police say he will be charged with driving with a suspended license.

"We're getting all the particulars of why he was suspended right now and we anticipate filing a traffic violation in the near future," Allegheny Twp. Police Chief John Fontaine said.

Petroff suffered a head injury and was distraught.

Police say their investigation is not over.
