Pitt Participating In Philadelphia Tourney

Pittsburgh (KDKA)- The 2011-12 Pitt basketball schedule hasn't been released yet but we do know that they'll take part in the 2011 Philly Hoop Group Classic.

I'm not sure why but the Pitt basketball team will participate in the 5th annual Philly Hoop Group Classic.

Other teams participating in this will be: James Madison, LaSalle University, University of Pennsylvania, Rider University and Robert Morris University.

The final round games will be played at The Palestra on Friday, November 25th & Saturday November 26th. The event's preliminary games will be played at participating schools from November 13th through the 23rd.

I'm just not sure what Pitt is gaining by playing in this tournament. They'll be favored to beat each of these teams by 25+ points and these games won't improve their RPI.

Pitt is too good of a program to be playing in a tournament full of cupcakes just to get a few wins.

They'd be better off going on the road to play teams like Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke, Ohio State, etc.

Come on Jamie Dixon and Steve Pederson, you're better than this.
