State Police, Secret Service Raid Motel 6 Room

KENNEDY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Police raided a local motel and found an illegal operation going on in one of the motel rooms.

Authorities from several different agencies had been following a couple since February and they say when they raided their Motel 6 room Monday morning, they found what they were looking for.

Caily Ann Pry, 23, is expecting a baby, but according to investigators , that pregnancy didn't slow her down at all over the last few months when police say she and 33-year-old Donald Murphy were passing counterfeit $50 bills from Pittsburgh to Johnstown.

Sources say during the raid they found some of those bills and some of the equipment they used to print the bills.

"The state police along with the Secret Service were involved in a raid that took place at Motel 6 in the Crafton area, Kennedy Township," State Trooper Robin Mungo said.

Police executed a search of the first floor room at the motel and a car used by the couple. They initially caught the attention of police because of a series of retails thefts that started a few months ago in Westmoreland County. All of their alleged activities were in retail stores.

"There were some – multiple retail thefts that occurred in Westmoreland County – brought to the attention of the state police and through looking at items that had been returned to the store that were stolen out of another county, they were able to start piecing things together through surveillance tapes and just documents to figure out that the items that were being returned were stolen items," Mungo explained.

Authorities won't say how many bills were passed over the past few months, but they were all fifties and all counterfeit.

The Secret Service is handling the investigation regarding the counterfeit money involved in this case and they do plan on looking at federal charges in the case which could make the penalties much stiffer if Murphy and Pry are found guilty.
