2 Dead In Clarion County Crash

ASHLAND TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A man and woman from Venango County are dead following an early morning accident on Friday in Clarion County.

State police say the crash happened around 5:30 a.m. on State Route 322 at Walt Kahle Road in Ashland Township.

Authorities say Clinton and Barbara Stumpner, of Emlenton, were pronounced dead at the scene after their vehicle collided with a tractor trailer.

According to state police, the Stumpners were headed east on State Route 322 in their Ford Taurus when they swerved to avoid hitting a deer.

State police report that Clinton Stumpner, 35, then lost control of the car and it slid sideways across the roadway into the westbound lane. The tractor trailer was headed west on the same road at the same time.

Officials say the front of the tractor trailer hit the passenger side of the car and pushed it off the road and into a nearby yard.

Barbara Stumpner was 49-years-old.

The driver of the tractor trailer, identified by state police as 59-year-old Henry Rex, of Knox, was not hurt in the crash.
