Man Critically Injured In Overnight SWAT Incident In Swissvale

SWISSVALE (KDKA) -- A man was hospitalized with critical injuries following an overnight shooting that sent police officers and the SWAT team to Swissvale.

Police from Swissvale were the first on the scene when the shots fired call came in. The incident started around 1 a.m. at Milligan Avenue and Cannon Street.

Investigators say they believe that the bulk of the incident took place in the alley to the rear of the building.

"Multiple shots fired, believe it's an exchange of gunfire between the two parties and we're in the process of examining the scene and documenting all the ballistic evidence," Lt. Andrew Schurman, of the Allegheny County Police Department, said overnight. "We believe there are more people involved."

Officials say the victim was found inside the apartment building. One person was detained for questioning.

The victim shot three times has been identified by detectives as 32-year-old Thaddeus Crumbley of McKeesport. Crumbley is wanted on homicide charges in the murder of 39-year-old William Clark in front of the bar in Homewood in November of last year. Pittsburgh police say he has been placed under arrest and is now facing charges.

"Along the way they encountered a person suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to local area hospital. He's listed in critical condition. That person was later discovered to have outstanding warrants issued by the City of Pittsburgh Police," said Schurman. "Throughout the course of the events, the county police SWAT team was requested and responded to the scene to clear the structure in the event that there was more people in the apartment."

Police were on at the scene through the morning hours continuing to investigate and talking to people in the neighborhood. Officials say a weapon was recovered.

Anyone with information in the overnight shooting is being asked to contact Allegheny County Police.
