Pirates/Mets Gameday Notes

The Pirates will send Paul Maholm to the mound this afternoon as they look to win three of four games vs. the NY Mets.

PIRATES/NY METS GAMEDAY NOTES:
*Have won four of their last six game and are 18-17 in their last 35 games.....Were 22-32 after 54 games last season....

*In the last six seasons (2006-2011), Paul Maholm has made more starts (164) than any other left-handed pitcher in the NL. Only Cole Hamel (1020) has pitched more NL innings than Maholm (1010.2) in that time....

*The Pirates have gone 9-5 in day games played on the road this season..

*With last night's victory, Kevin Correia became the first eight game winner in the Major Leagues. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Correia is the first Pirate pitcher to lead the Majors in wins as late as June 2 since Vern Law in 1960....

*Pittsburgh's starting pitchers have gone 13 straight games without giving up more than two earned runs and have gone 7-3 with a 1.67 ERA in that time......According to the Elias Sports Bureau, that's the longest streak in the Majors this year and the longest by the Bucs since Sept 13-27, 1968..

*The Pirates are now 23-5 when they have scored four or more runs in a game this season...

*The Pirates captured their 9,600 win in franchise history last night.....Only five other teams have as many wins; the Giants (10,466), Cubs (10,264), Braves (9,976), Dodgers (9,751) and Yankees (9,701)....

*The Pirates posted a .989 fielding percentage (10 errors in 977 total chances) during the month of May to rank fourth in the Majors and second in the National League in that department.....The middle infielders went the entire month of May without an error....

*The Pirates have played 10 series on the road this season and have won seven of them....The Bucs won a total of four series on the road in 2010 and just three in 2009....They won seven road series in 2008....
