Pitt Recruiting: Good/Bad News

Pittsburgh (KDKA)- Todd Graham and the Pitt football team made plenty of news this weekend as they received 4 verbal commitments.

Graham got commitments from WR Trenton Coles (Clairton), C Brandyn Cook (Cincinnati, Ohio), DE Myles Hilliard (Bedford, Ohio) and CB William Parks (Germantown, PA).

That was good news, the bad news was that none of these players were highly recruited.

To be honest, it reminded me of the type of recruits former head coach Walt Harris used to get.

I realize that player rankings from scouting services aren't always reliable, but it worries me that four of the five players hadn't received any major offers.

Pitt's Five Verbal Commitments:
Trenton Coles,WR : 3-star player (No offers aside from Pitt)

Brandyn Cook, C: No-star player (Offers from Miami, Ohio and Youngstown State)

Marzett Geter, CB: No-star player (No offers aside from Pitt)

Myles Hilliard, DE: 3-star player (Offers from West Virginia, Syracuse, Minnesota, Cincinnati)

William Parks, CB: No-star player (Offers fromo UConn, Temple)

Recap: Pitt's five recruits have a total of only five offers from other BCS conference schools and four of them are owned by Hilliard.

It's early and I'm sure Graham will start to receive commitments from higher ranked players but Pitt's recruiting for the Class of 2012 is off to a slow start.
