Penguins Release Full 2011-12 Season Schedule

PITTSBURGH (KDKA)- The Pittsburgh Penguins will open the 2011-12 regular season versus the Vancouver Canucks.

The Pens will actually start the season on a three-game road trip through Western Canada (Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton).

This marks the first time the Penguins have opened the regular season with three straight road games since the lockout-shortened 1994-95 campaign when they visited Tampa Bay, Florida and the New York Rangers Jan. 20-25, 1995.

The Pens home opener will be versus the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.

Pittsburgh plays its first game in Winnipeg since Feb. 16, 1996, when the Penguins visit the recently-relocated franchise on Monday, Oct. 17 for an 8:30 p.m. face off. Winnipeg makes its first visit to CONSOL Energy Center on Friday, Feb. 10.

Other highlights from the schedule:
*The Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins visit Pittsburgh on Monday, Dec. 5 and Sunday, March 11.

*The second home game of the season will be versus Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals (October 13th).

*The Pens will play on New Year's Eve at New Jersey, 1 p.m. face off.

*The Philadelphia Flyers first visit to the CONSOL Energy Center will be on Dec. 29.

*The Tampa Bay Lightning will be in town on Feb. 12 and Feb. 25.

*The Pens close out the regular season on April 7 versus the Philadelphia Flyers at 3 p.m.
