Etna Man Charged In Sexual Assault Held For Court

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A former teacher facing charges in the sexual assault of two teenage boys was in court today for a preliminary hearing.

John Curtioff, 61, of Etna, was ordered to stand trial. He was arrested late last month.

According to investigators, Curtioff is a former teacher in the Upper Adams School District in central Pennsylvania. He hasn't taught there since 2000, but was volunteering locally as a boating safety instructor.

Allegheny County police say that the investigation started in Adams County. Investigators say a man was arrested there and charged with molesting a 15-year-old boy and 16-year-old boy. It was that investigation that led them to the local suspect.

Police say Curtioff is accused of taking the teens on his boat and give them alcohol.

"Part of the allure that he has with these adolescent males is that he has a boat and he would get them on the boat, provide them with alcohol, and then take advantage of the kids sexually," Lt. Jeff Korczyk, of the Allegheny County Police, said earlier this month.
