Police Arrest McKeesport Carjacking Suspect

SOUTH SIDE (KDKA) – A carjacking suspect led police on a chase through Pittsburgh before being apprehended on the South Side early Tuesday morning.

According to police, the carjacking happened around midnight at the BP gas station in McKeesport.

The suspect grabbed a woman, threw her to the ground and stole her blue Hyundai Elantra.

Around 1 a.m., University of Pittsburgh Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspect took off and led police on a chase through the uptown area.

"At approximately 1 o'clock our officers were doing the investigation and writing the report. They were informed by 911 that the University of Pittsburgh Police [were] in pursuit of that vehicle," McKeesport Police Captain Kim Hannah said.

During the pursuit, the suspect tossed a gun from the vehicle.

He has been identified as Klein Thaxton, 21, of McKeesport.

Thaxton jumped out of the vehicle at the intersection of Gist and Tustin Streets. The suspect then ran up on top of the Forbes Auto Body.

He jumped to the roof of a neighboring property before injuring his ankle and being caught by police.

He was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital to be treated for his injuries.
