On Thursday evening PiratesProspects.com editor Tim Williams joined “Late Shift” host Chris Mueller on 93.7 The Fan to discuss how eager the Pirates might be to make a big move at the July 31 trade deadline, considering their farm depth and the fact they’re still in contention with their current roster.

Tim explains why he would favor bringing in Cubs first baseman Carlos Pena over Houston outfield Hunter Pence, and whether Pena’s high strikeout numbers concern him, and weighs Pena’s chances of coming to Pittsburgh. In addition, Tim gives some insight on a recent exchange with Pirates GM Neal Huntington, and what he and Huntington agree would be the most significant second-half upgrade the Pirates could receive.

Tim also tells why he and Chris see eye to eye on the importance of shortstop Ronny Cedeno rejoining the Bucs for their weekend series against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals.
