Athletes Arrive For National Veterans Wheelchair Games

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Athletes from all over came to Pittsburgh Sunday to gear up for the start of the 31st Annual National Veterans Wheelchair Games.

Many flew into Pittsburgh International Airport to participate in the event.

More than 600 athletes are expected to be in town for the games and there's a little something for everybody.

"It's a fantastic thing to see these athletes just compete with one another," Nicholas Holler from the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System said.

"It's a great event, you know. You see people you know every year and it lifts a lot of spirits, and, you know, something to give back to the VA," Dave Farris said.

Some athletes said it is a thrill to compete in the games and the competition can get intense.
