Suspicious Fires Have Braddock Officials On Alert

BRADDOCK (KDKA) - The second suspicious fire in as many days has fire investigators and police on alert in Braddock.

A neighbor reported seeing smoke coming from a vacant house at 209 Vine Way around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

"With the close proximity of the houses in these neighborhoods, you know, one goes - you have the potential of losing two or three," said Braddock Volunteer Fire Chief Tom Petrovic.

KDKA's Kym Gable reports:

Firefighters from four departments responded and found a mattress burning inside.

On Monday, the same crews responded to a similar fire just a few blocks away on May Way.

Chief Petrovic told KDKA-TV's Kym Gable on Tuesday night, "We've already talked to the police department and (they) are going to start to try to step up some patrols in these alleyways. That's where these fires have been in, small alleys; so, it could be kids and it also could be vagrants or drug-related where people are going in and using the houses for drug use."

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is currently investigating both fires.

KDKA's Ross Guidotti reports:
