Pirates Broadcaster John Wehner Talks Team's Struggles

PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- Former Pirate and current color commentator John Wehner joined Seibel, Starkey and Miller on SportsRadio 93-7 The FAN as the team looks to end their current losing streak.

Wehner said every team in baseball is going to go through a tough stretch where either the hitting is going well and the pitching is struggling, or the pitching is hot and the bats are off.

Despite the team's struggles, the starting pitching is still the key to their success and Wehner said he expects some more offensive production because the lineup, at least on paper, looks much better with the additions of Derek Lee and Ryan Ludwick.

Wehner also talked about manager Clint Hurdle's demeanor during this losing streak, and how he has been reacting to all of it behind the scenes.  John said it has to be frustrating for Hurdle because it's even difficult for him watching these games.

Pedro Alvarez has been a hot button issue around here just about all season, and John told us what the difference is between the Pedro that had success in the second half of last season, compared to the Pedro that is out there struggling right now.

We wrapped things up with John talking about the injuries the Pirates have suffered throughout the season, and how they are affecting them now.
