5 Onboard As Boat Goes Over Highland Park Dam

O'HARA TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – Five people endured some tense moments when their boat went over the Highland Park Dam Saturday night.

According to officials at the scene, the incident happened around 10 p.m.

Two women and three men were on the boat when it went over the dam. All five people ended up in the water after being thrown from the boat.

Two were able to swim to shore safely, while three others had to be rescued by other boaters.

A boater, who was near the docks at the marina, said he heard some cries for help.

He told KDKA-TV's Ralph Iannotti that he and another woman got into a boat and went out on the river.

"There was a man floating on something," he said. "We pulled him into our boat, and called 911 about the mishap."

A rescue boat from the locks nearby went into the water, and got the two other men out of the water.

There are no reported injuries and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is conducting the investigation.
