Woman To Stand Trial After Niece, 6, Drives SUV

BEAVER (KDKA) -- A local woman who is facing charges for allegedly allowing her 6-year-old niece to drive her SUV in a parking lot has been held for trial.

A preliminary hearing was held today for 54-year-old Rebecca Beatty of Aliquippa.

The police incident report describes how Beatty was picking up her niece from a dance rehearsal at Ambridge High School when the incident happened.

Returning to her SUV, authorities say Beatty found the driver's door unreachable as an adjacent car parked too close. So, Beatty is accused of having the girl get into the driver's seat while she climbed into the passenger side, instructing the child to back out of the parking space.

Several other vehicles were damaged in the incident, but no one was hurt.
