22 Rescued From Allegheny River

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Crews rescued 18 children and four others from the Allegheny River after their dragon boat capsized near the Ninth Street Bridge.

The crew was caught off guard by two approaching wakes.

The man who steers the boat says the kids kept their cool even after they were dumped into the river.

"We did have to – I think some of the youthful exuberance was more of a problem than panic because, you know, just having the kids listen to instruction and stay with the boat was obviously key for the adults to keep safety in mind, but the kids did really well," Jacob Witul said.

No one was injured in the accident.

The children were all part of the Paddlers for Peace youth dragon boat league.
