Port Authority Helps Out 'Dark Knight'

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A Port Authority police car blocks the entrance to the Wabash Tunnel where the Batmobile waits to spring into action.

Filming of the blockbuster movie, "The Dark Knight Rises" has received a needed assist from Pittsburgh's transportation system.

In addition to the tunnel, the Port Authority has shut down the Steel Plaza subway station and the East Busway where dozens of "Gotham City" cruisers await what promises to be a smashing chase scene.

Port Authority spokesman Jim Ritchie admits the closures have had an effect, but says, "Pittsburghers want excitement. They want movies like Batman to come and film here. And there's a little bit that goes with that. A little bit of sacrifice along the way."

Film producers have helped the Port Authority in coordinating detours. Ritchie has a suggestion for those of us who use mass transit: "We have a full schedule on our website that you should check as a rider, to find out where the filming is going to be, and how it will impact your ride."

Good advice for getting home before the "dark night" falls.
