Free Clinic Opening In Braddock

BRADDOCK (KDKA) -- When Braddock Hospital closed in January of last year, several communities were left without a full-service hospital.

But now a free clinic is opening in one community.

The clinic will be open weekends from 9 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Braddock Municipal Building.

"And I thank God for the people who listened to the cry of the people," Diane Thompson-Baley, of Braddock, said.

The free medical clinic was organized by the Muslim Council of America.

"This will be like a primary care facility for people who don't have insurance," Braddock Borough Council President Jesse Brown said.

It's for adult patients living in Braddock, North Braddock and Rankin who must also meet certain income guidelines.

The clinic will operate with a team of 20 doctors who will volunteer their time – many of whom who have also donated equipment that will be used at the facility.

Only 2,600 people live and Braddock and about half of them will qualify for this clinic.
