Motocross National Tour Stopping In Delmont

DELMONT (KDKA) -- Labor Day weekend gets off to a roaring start Saturday afternoon at Steel City Raceway.

The dirt bike track in Delmont is an annual stop for the Motocross National Tour.

Motocross spokesman Brandon Short says the Delmont stop is a 23-year tradition.

"It's one of our biggest tracks. It's very long. It has very diverse sections. The traps and the obstacles that the riders have to face are very unique and tricky."

Jessica Patterson is back to defend her win in the women's division race at Steel City last year.

"I get such an adrenaline rush getting on the line and lining up with, you know, 30 other girls and going out there and seeing who's the best," she said.

Who's the best? The Tallahassee, Fla., woman has won six national championships.

But isn't this a scary way to spend a summer? Jessica disagrees.

"Honestly, when you're racing you don't even think about it. You just go and you have fun. And this is what you love and what you've always dreamed of."

The dirt bike races begin at 1 p.m. Saturday.
