Steelers Cut 21 Players, Place Leftwich On IR

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Steelers have trimmed their roster ahead of the Saturday deadline.

So far, they have cut 21 players and placed QB Byron Leftwich on injured reserve. That means he's out for the rest of the season.

He broke his arm in last week's preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Among the players cut are WRs Tyler Grisham, Armand Robinson and Wes Lyons.

On the defense, DBs Brett Greenwood, Macho Harris, Donovan Warren and Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith were released.

Other players cut loose are Baraka Atkins, Mario Harvey, Chris McCoy, Mortty Ivy, Corbin Bryant, James Johnson, John Clay, Colin Miller, Kyle Jolly, John Malecki, Trevis Turner, Keith Williams, Jamie McCoy and Swayze Waters.

Players that could draw interest from other NFL teams could include Ivy, Warren, Clay, Lyons and Grisham.

The Steelers must let go of five more players by 6 p.m. tomorrow.
