4-1-Zoo: 2012 Basketball Class Continues To Climb

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — The talk of the internet Thursday afternoon was Pitt basketball's 2012 recruiting class, which is impressive given that football season is just getting started.

Yes, it was the Panthers basketball team making people talk and that's because the 2012 class has moved up in rankings across the board.

Rivals.com has Pitt ranked No. 4 in the country and ESPN has rated Pitt No. 3. Such lofty rankings with just two official commitments.

Steven Adams — standing nearly seven feet tall and 220 pounds — is what has made this class so special to date, as he has risen quickly in the player rankings. He's ranked No. 2 at the power forward position and No. 4 overall nationally by Rivals.com, which lists him as a 5-star recruit.

Scout.com also lists Adams as a 5-star recruit and has him rated fourth among all centers.

Adams will likely only continue to rise and scouts say he could end up being a No. 1 overall recruit by the time recruiting for 2012 comes to a close.

Along with Adams is 4-star point guard James Robinson out of Maryland. Rivals rates him the No. 10 point guard for 2012 and Scout has him at No. 17.

These two, along with freshman power forward Khem Birch, give Pitt coach Jamie Dixon a lot of incoming star power to work with. The one-and-done, NBA types of players critics say Dixon needs to finally reach a Final Four are on their way.
