UNIONTOWN (KDKA) — State police in Fayette County say a man and woman from Point Marion are facing charges following the death of a 4-year-old boy at a West Virginia hospital on Tuesday evening.

State police say Patrick Haney, 27, has been charged with criminal homicide in connection with the death of Trenton St. Clair. Haney’s girlfriend, Heather Forsythe, also 27, is facing charges of endangering the welfare of a child.

Investigators say Forsythe’s son, St. Clair, 4, of Point Marion, was pronounced dead just after 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W. Va.

According to authorities, the hospital reported the boy’s death to state police. State police say that medical personnel reported that they believed the boy’s injuries were “intensive and consistent with physical abuse.”

Investigators say when Forsythe was interviewed by state police she said that “Haney had been physically abusing St. Clair for several days.”

When Haney was interviewed, state police say he “admitted to disciplining St. Clair by hitting him in the face and smacking him on the back of the head.”

Haney and Forsythe have been arraigned.

Haney is being held in the Fayette County Prison. Forsythe is also being held in jail in lieu of bond.
