PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Over the weekend, the University of Pittsburgh’s bid to join the Atlantic Coast Conference was accepted. Athletic Director, Steve Pederson joined the Fan Morning Show on Monday to talk about the imminent move.
Pederson is very excited about moving to the ACC and that Pitt will have a secure home for the future of their athletic programs. With the landscape of conference expansion changing drastically, this assures Pitt’s place in a competitive conference for not only basketball and football, but all programs. Pederson called the ACC, “a perfect fit, in so many ways. And [they are] thrilled to be a part of it.”
The Big East has a policy stating that programs must provide 27 months notice before departing the conference. Pederson is not sure whether or not that policy can be waived and that Pitt athletics will be competing in the ACC next season.
