Appeals Court Strikes Down Arena Preservationists

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The people making a last-ditch effort to save the Civic Arena from demolition have been dealt another blow.

The Third Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld the lower court's ruling that will allow the Sports and Exhibition Authority to tear down the arena.

In the decision, the court said: "Specifically, we agree with the District Court's conclusion that Appellant is unable to meet the standards of Federal Rule of Appellate Procedure 8 (a) and that Appellant has failed to show that it is likely to succeed on the merits."

The SEA Board said demolition on the arena could start as early as Monday.
