Elderly Couple Rescued After Falling Down Hillside

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- An elderly couple in Washington County had to be rescued after their son found them over a hillside behind their home.

It's possible the Ed Petrisek, 95, and his wife, Betty, 93, spent the night there.

They are listed in serious condition at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

Firefighters went to the home at 1340 Alamae Lakes Road in South Franklin Township at about 10 a.m.

The Petrisek's apparently fell down the hillside and were stranded for hours.

"We had a lot of rain last night and by their clothing and their body temperature, they were out there for quite a while," South Franklin VFD Capt. Michael Henderson said.

Firefighters say it looks like the couple may have fallen while doing garden work – one slipped and the other tried to help.

Both were about 100 feet from the house. The only thing nearby was a broken chair.

"It's very sad – especially both of them together knowing that one of them was probably down first and the other one came to his or her aid and also went down," Henderson said.

Firefighters were called to the scene after the couple's son came to have breakfast with them and found them down the hillside.
