Jim Render On The UPMC Centers For Rehab Services High School Football Show

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - Upper St. Clair head football coach Jim Render joined 93.7 The Fan's John Phillips Saturday to talk about the hot start by his Panthers, who upped their overall record to 4-1 after a 42-0 whipping of Baldwin in their Class AAAA Great Southern Conference opener at Panther Stadium Friday.

It was Render's 347th career win, and since starting at USC in 1969, he has become the winningest head coach, active or retired, in WPIAL history, and currently ranks third all-time on the PIAA career victories list. He talks about some of the factors leading to that success, and to the consistent success of his program.

In addition, Render gives his thoughts on what former USC star and current Buffalo Bills executive Doug Whaley was like as a football player, and tells the story of why his team elected not to participate in one of the first ever state football tournaments, despite winning a WPIAL title at the time.
