Canon-McMillan Football Players Among Students Cited For Underage Drinking

CANONSBURG (KDKA) -- A group of football players at Canon-McMillan High School is among 30 students cited for underage drinking.

Just before midnight Saturday, North Strabane got a tip of an underage drinking party at a home on Long Road.

They arrived to find kids inside and outside the house partying with, "alcohol being possessed and consumed."

Police say the owner of the home is Canon-McMillan teacher and dean of students William Haney. He was out of state at the time with his wife and was unaware of what was going on until they reached him by phone.

Police told KDKA-TV Haney's 22-year-old son was at work and only his 17-year-old son was at home at the time of the party.

Parents of those at the party were summoned to the house to pick up their kids.

Canon-McMillan Acting Superintendent Michael McDaniel has banned eight football players from the team for the rest of this week, including the homecoming game this weekend.

He also says the school's homecoming court may be impacted as well.
